Day 2 Travel in our luxury coach through the Braulio Carrillo National Park and get your first introduction to Costa Rica’s rainforests with a short hike in the park. Spend the afternoon relaxing or choosing from a variety of activities, including:
• Stroll through extensive gardens of native tropical plants
• Experience the mysterious complexities of the rainforest with an easy self-guided hike on an island lush with tropical vegetation.
• Visit a museum featuring rainforest ecology and indigenous and pre-Hispanic history
Day 3 Participate in a half-day walk with one of the excellent naturalist guides at a Biological Reseach Station; explore the wildlife in a boat tour on the Sarapiqui River or take an easy rainforest rafting trip on the Upper Sarapiqui river.
Day 4 Begin the day with a naturalist’s garden walk featuring historical, medicinal and edible plants.
Tour to LaPaz Waterfall Gardens with lunch; dinner and shopping in the lively town of Fortuna
Day 5 Choose from several exciting actitivites in the Arenal Volcano area such as a canopy zip line tour, a waterfall hike; end the day at the fabulous Tabacon Hot Springs with dinner.
Day 6 Today our group will take a small boat ride across the scenic Lake Arenal providing a panoramic view of the volcano. We are met by our drivers and continue the trip over the mountain to the town of Santa Elena, home of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve; after lunch we are met by a naturalist for a guided nature hike in the cloud forest.
Day 7 Today we will spend the day experiencing the uniqueness of the Monteverde area; activities may include a tour of the quaint village settled by Quakers, including the cheese factory and numerous artist’s galleries; the exciting SkyTrek Canopy Tour. Dinner in Santa Elena.
Day 8 Return to San Jose for your flight home. If time allows, we will stop in the small village of Sarchi, the cradle of wood crafting and decorating in Costa Rica, particularly known for its production of colorful ox-carts and the famous leather rocking chairs.
